Section 1 Open
Open to all instrumentalists and
vocalists, excluding 1st Prize Winners from the past 2 yrs. Instrumentalists
must present a complete work in concerto form
(ie solo and orchestra or concert band). Vocalists must prepare a program of
EITHER four contrasting arias from Opera/Oratorio OR a work/s for Voice
and Orchestra eg Mozart’s Motet, a Bach Cantata, or Four Last Songs by R
Strauss. The open section will consist of two stages – preliminary and
final. Five performers will be chosen from the preliminary stage to compete in
the finals. No age or geographical restrictions.
Time
limit: 15 - 40 minutes.
Section 2
Vocal
Contestants must prepare a program
in two parts. Major part must be an aria from an opera or oratorio, or a
substantial work for voice and orchestra. The
minor part should consist of one or more folk songs or art songs (not Lieder).
The major part to be sung first.
Time
limit: 10 – 15 minutes.
Section 3 Piano and Instrumental
Open to all pianists and
instrumentalists excluding previous winners. Contestants may play one or more
movements from the same concerto. The work
must have been specifically written for solo instrument and orchestra or concert
band.
Time
limit: 10 - 25 minutes.
Section 4
Young Performers Solo
Contestants must be currently
attending school. Contestants may play one or more movements from the same
concerto. The work must have been specifically
written for solo instrument and orchestra or concert band.
Time
limit: 6 – 12 minutes.
Section 5
Open Ensemble (3 - 8 Performers)
A complete chamber work. No age or
geographical restrictions. No conductor or amplification. Repeats may be omitted.
Time
limit: 15 – 35 minutes.
Section 6
School Ensembles (3 – 8 performers)
Open to school students only. No
conductor and no amplification.
Time Limit: 10 – 20 minutes
