2001 Adjudicator: Trevor Green

Mr Trevor Green was appointed to the position of Managing Director of the Melbourne Symphony in Oct 1998, taking up the position in Feb 1999.

As Director of the Australian National Academy of Music from 1997, he was responsible for furthering the development of Australia's young, elite classical musicians, determining and providing challenging programs and selecting international visiting artists to coordinate the instrumental and vocal programs.

Prior to this appointment, Mr Green held the position of Head of Music BBC North in Manchester for nine years, where he was responsible for the broadest music policy for Radio 3 and for the BBC Philharmonic. He was the Director of Concert Music for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation from 1985 - 1988 and responsible for the artistic and financial planning of the ABC's six orchestras.

Mr Green trained as a musician and was Assistant Principal Trumpet with BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and teacher at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music. From 1974 - 1977 he was Orchestral Manager for the Scottish Philharmonic Society in Edinburgh and between 1977 and 1985 was Orchestral Manager of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

In 1974 he was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Northern College of Music for services to music.
