Percent Responses Yes 89.5% 17 No 10.5% 2 Comments: I have entered this competition twice and it has been well organized and an enjoyable experience This is a good opportunity for school groups to perform at and get great feedback. Need a change of adjudicator It is quite an expensive thing to do though considering the application alone is quite expensive plus flights, accommodation if not billeting, and accompanists fees with very few competitors gaining any money from their efforts As a 2nd time competitor, we found the quality of the adjudication much better eg. in 2010 there was only one genuine concerto in the final, the rest were pieces for solo instruments and orchestra-not concertos. This needs to be more closely monitored as it's very unfair for some entrants however 2011 finalists all played genuine concertos so it was fine. A realistic approach to photography/video for family members needs to be addressed as these are not only a valuable learning tool for the musician but not all family members can travel to Townsville and would appreciate seeing the performance. It cost approx. $2000 for the entrant and father to attend the competition so to be denied the opportunity to take a photo is unsatisfactory. A parent/guardian should be given free admission to all sessions. This was frequently commented on by parents of junior competitors. I found giving awards to 'local' competitors extremely unfair when their standard was very much beneath others who had spent a lot of money to travel from conservatoriums in other states. i found the adjudication of results made absolutely no sense and would not recommend players from other states to travel to the competition. for example; those who use music, do not play well with the accompanist or make many mistakes should simply not receive prizes over those who have presented a solid piece by memory and work to stay together with the pianist even if this means they sacrifice some of their own musical qualities 6. They are performers too, and 50% of the overall performance. Very well done. The finals are going from strength to strength with the standard is just amazing. I much preferred the Mercure as a venue to the Riverway Arts Centre. I do not feel 'where from' should be mentioned at the competition, I think it should be just the name of the competitor and where they are from shouldn't be so publicly acknowledged. It's wonderful to have the ability to play an entire concerto as very few competitions offer this. Thank you. I found the competition volunteers to be extremely helpful and friendly; more so then any other competition I've entered
